Funeral services for Mrs. Albert (Susie Gruver) Lubke, 95, were held Thursday, April 30, 1992, at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. The Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated the service with burial in the Postville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Duane Thompson, Dean Gunderson, Everett Cook, Paul Welzel, Kim Schutte and Leonard Thoma. Susie Gruver Lubke died Monday, April 27, 1992, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville.
Susie Gruver Lubke was born on a farm in Clayton County, Iowa, July 5, 1896, the daughter of George and Mary (Hofer) Gruver. She was baptized November 4, 1934, in the Methodist Church at Elgin, by the Rev. J. J. Snyder and confirmed July 1, 1956, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville by the Rev. Charles E. Witt. In her early youth she attended school in West Union, Clermont and Brainard. She later lived with her aunt, Mrs. Louise Miller in Clermont for about seven years. She worked as a seamstress, making clothes and doing alterations for many families. On December 25, 1919, she was married to Albert R. Lubke. They lived on his mother's farm near Clermont for about 11 years, moving to Clermont in 1931. Her husband worked in his brother Herman's store until 1939, when they moved to Postville. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of ELCA.
Survivors include a sister Kathryn (Mrs. Orval) Sullivan of Elkader; three nieces, one nephew; several grandnieces and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, who died November 29, 1971, and two brothers, Max and Reuben Gruver.
