Rites Held For Fred J. Landt

Fred John Landt was born on August 25, 1884 in Garnavillo, Iowa, the son of Karl Landt and Minnie Radloff Landt. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Garnavillo on October 19, 1884 and confirmed on March 26, 1899 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona. He died at the Postville Hospital on February 18, 1961 at the age of 76 years, five months and 24 days.

He was married to Elsie Kluss on February 15, 1907. One son, Harry, was born to this union. Following their marriage, they farmed for 29 years on a farm south of Luana. They then moved to Luana, where they lived for seven years, and moved to Postville in 1942. During the time of his residence in Postville, he was in partnership with Harry Reinhardt as a painter, and later with his son and other partners.

He had surgery at the LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital on January 2, 1961, and was returned to his home in Postville on January 19, and later moved to the Postville Hospital.

He was preceded in death by one half-brother, Herman Landt of Luana.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Harry of Postville; one grandson; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, William and Charles Landt of Luana; one half-brother, Henry Landt of Postville; three sisters, Mrs. Frieda Cox of Milwaukee, Mrs. George Kluss of Monona, and Mrs. Willard Livingood of Postville; one half-sister, Mrs. William Heins of Luana; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on Tuesday, February 21, 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles E. Witt officiating. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
