Olive Louise Grinder 1914-1993

Olive Louise Grinder, daughter of Ole M. and Sarah (Swenson) Grinder, was born Sept. 24, 1914 at Kenosha, Wis. She died on Thursday, Feb. 18, 1993 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She was 78.

She attended school in Kenosha, Wis., and was graduated from Luana High School in Luana, Iowa in 1933. She attended Luther College in Decorah for two years. Ollie and Mildred Overeen opened a dress shop in Postville, called the Derene Shop, which Ollie eventually purchased from Mildred.

Ollie had been married to Milo Harris.

She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and the Women of the CPC. She had also been a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Leo, Amos and Silas, and two sisters, Lillian Grinder and Marie Sluga.

She is survived by a sister, Ella Harvey, of Racine, Wis., nieces and nephews, Sue (Harvey) and her husband, Richard Hamm, Betty (Sluga) and her husband, Don Hubbard, William and Diane Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. William Sluga, Richard Sluga, Roger Sluga and Larry Sluga, many great nephews and nieces, a sister-in-law, Helen Grinder and a cousin, Leslie Smith of Luana, Iowa, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 22, 1993 at 11 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, the Rev. Terry Hennesy officiating. The organist was Beverly Bacon. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Lyle Sebastian, Gerald Meyer, Larry Reed, Stanley Schroeder, Rodney Smith and Robert Wedo.
