Lavon Emma Kregel, 78, Postville, Iowa, died Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa, following a brief illness. Lavon was born on August 23, 1931, Farmersburg, Iowa, to Henry and Elsie (Schlitter) Kutzbach.

She was baptized on December 25, 1931, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa, by the Rev. G.J. Zeilinger. Lavon was confirmed on July 18, 1945, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa, by the Rev. K. Landgrebe.

Lavon graduated from Farmersburg High School, Farmersburg, Iowa, with the class of 1949. She was united in marriage to Gordon Albert Kregel on June 7, 1949, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.

Lavon was very active in the Postville Community and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. She enjoyed antiques, going for rides and visiting with her Northland Clients. She loved her family very much and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her three children, Mark (Ann) Kregel of Lone Tree, Sherri (Daryl) Knoke of Decorah, Kent (Tammy Harris) Kregel of Waukon; seven grandchildren, Chanda (husband, Adam), Melissa, Lindsey, Jason, Michael, Kelli, Kendra; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Marisa; sister-in-law, Shirley Kutzbach of Farmersburg; two brothers-in-law, Eldon (Rita) Kregel of Monona, Don (Jane) Kregel of Luana and many nieces and nephews.

Lavon was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elsie Kutzbach; her husband, Gordon Kregel, on March 3, 1976; one brother, Harlan "Hap" Kutzbach and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gus and Martha Kregel.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
