Passing of T.F. Hannafin Veteran New Albin D.D.S.

It is always a sad duty for the editor to write of death but doubly so when one well known and a prominent citizen is called to the Great Beyond, as was Dr. T.F. Hannafin, of New Albin, last week. He was stricken with some serious kidney trouble the week before and on Friday taken to St.Francis Hospital, LaCrosse, where he passed away on Sunday, Dec 11.
Deceased was born March 16, 1868, at Giard, Clayton county, and came with his parents at an early age to Houston county, Minn. His higher education was obtained as follows; graduated from Decorah Business College, received Bachelor's Degree from Valpairiso, Ind., and his degree in dentistry from Iowa State University in 1899. Engaged in practice shortly afterwards at New Albin, where he continued until his death--thirty- three years.
In his passing we feel that this community has suffered an irreparable loss. He was a member of the Town Council for fifteen years, served on the School Board, and was active in consolidating the school district and building the new Consolidated High School, which is the pride of the city. Dr Hannafin was associated with the New Albin Savings Bank as director for twenty years and as its president the past six years.
He was united in marriage with Estella Fish in 1900, shortly after locating in New Albin, to which union two children were born, Blanche and Edward, who with the widow survive to mourn the loss of a kind, indulgent husband and father.
The performance of all his official duties, like his domestic, social and business affairs, stand as a monument to his honesty, intelligence and fidelity to duty.
Dr. Hannafin has always taken an active part in the civil affairs of his community and will be greatly missed, not only in the family circle, but by his neighbors and a host of friends. This writer had the pleasure of at least a casual acquaintance with him, in his weekly visits to New Albin the past ten or more years, and knows that to be a friend or neighbor had a real meaning to this man of high ideals and noble impulses.
Among fraternities to which deceased belonged was St.Matthew's Council, Knights of Columbus, Waukon, and the following members of the order were delegated to attend the funeral: P.J. Quillin, Leslie McAneny, John J. Ryan, P.J. Mahoney, and Dan Fitzgerald.
The funeral took place at St.Joseph's church Wednesday morning, Rev. L. Hayes celebrating the Requiem High Mass and preaching a touching sermon in which he paid deserved tribute to the fervent faith and high Christian character of deceased.
High lights from Father Hayes' remarks: "Man of intense faith"..."School, the apple of his eye"...:Generous supporter of church"..."A man who loved his home and spared nothing for his family"..."One whose place in the community will be hard to fill"..."Community should thank God that such a man was given to them for so many years."
School and business places closed during time of funeral and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery west of town.
