Darwin Alfred Fritz, son of Alfred William and Elsie (Borcherding) Fritz, was born June 4, 1937 near Hawkeye, Iowa. He died Friday, September 2, 1994 at Osage, Iowa. He was 57 years old.
He was baptized in July of 1937 in the Richfield Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1950 in St. John Lutheran Church at Sumner, Iowa. Dar attended the Randalia grade school and graduated from Sumner High School in 1955. He then attended Wartburg College in Waverly and graduated in 1959. Dar continued his education, graduating from the School of Banking.
On December 27, 1960 he was married to Rebecca B. Pollock in the Jordan's Grove Baptist Church at Central City, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Scott, Lora and Stuart.
Darwin coached at the Parkersburg School for two years. Darwin and Rebecca moved to Sumner where he was employed at the bank, and in 1967 they moved to Postville, where he continued his banking career. Dar's position was the office of Vice President of the Citizen's State Bank in Postville.
Dar was very active in the community. He was a charter member and past president of the Postville Lion's Club and the Postville Boosters Club, a member of the Citizens State Bank Board of Directors, and the West Union Area Officials Association. Darwin became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville in 1967 and had served on the church council. He had also been a member of Dollars For Scholars, the Jaycees and the Commercial Club. Dar loved to watch his children participate in sports and to play with his grandchildren. He also like to bowl, play golf, work in his garden, plant flowers and go camping.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Fritz and his stepfather, Ralph Albrecht.
Surviving are his wife Becky, of Postville; two sons, Scott (Colleen) Fritz of Marion and Stuart (Carol) Fritz of Holland, Mich; a daughter, Lora (James) Zieman; his mother, Mrs. Elsie Albrecht of Sumner and a brother, Willys (Leanne) Fritz of West Union.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 6, 1994 in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Charles W. Miller officiated. Casketbearers were Daryl Bachtell, Marvin Chevalier, Don Heins, Robert Kerr, Jr., James Lage, Harley Radloff, Jr., Wayne Schroeder, Cloy Schultz, Jr., Eugene Suddendorf, Leonard Thoma, Steve Werner, and Mark Zieman. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
