Funeral services for Robert R. Fiet were held Friday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville with Rev. James Walker officiating. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements. Burial was held in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Robert Richard Fiet was born March 12, 1926 on the Ludlow Township farm of his parents, Albert and Nora (Blum) Fiet. He died Tuesday, May 13, 1997 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and attended Ludlow #7 rural school. On June 11, 1946 he was married to Norma Kosbau at the Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon by Rev. Henning. For over 30 years he was a dairy farmer on the family Century Farm, where he lived all his life. He also worked as an exterior painter for many, many years.

Robert was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, maintained the grounds and cemetery and rang the church bell. He was also a former 4-H leader, member of the Switzerland of Iowa Harmonizers and Farm Bureau member. He loved spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed music and played the piano and accordion by ear. Other interests included raising houseplants, yard and lawn work, dancing, reading and fishing.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Reginald, and a sister Mildred Adam.

Surviving are his wife, Norma; a son Loren (Cindy) Fiet of Waukon; three daughter, Patricia (Harold) Jacobson of New Milford, CT, Julia (Terry) Mohs of Postville and Gwendolyn (Dennis) Davies, of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother-in-law, Willard Adam of Postville; nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Casketbearers were his grandchildren: Denise Blake, Cathie and Amy Fiet, Brian and Christopher Jacobson, and Heidi, Holly Holy, Branden and Heather Mohs.
