Elmer Paul Flage, son of Fred and Sophia (Bollhofer) Flage, was born Dec. 28, 1898 in Ludlow Township, rural Postville, Iowa. He died Friday, Sept. 4, 1992 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. He was 93.
He was baptized and confirmed at the Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon, and he attended the Ludlow School No. 2. On June 11, 1930, he married Alvina Anna Klein, the Rev. John Klosterbor officiating, in the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville. They lived with their two daughters on a farm in Ludlow Township until Oct. 30, 1962, when they moved to Postville.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alvina, who died Feb. 23, 1967; and five brothers, David, Fred, Clarence, Ben and John.
Surviving are his daughters, Gladys Geraghty of Monona and Violet Titus of Luana; two grandchildren, Kevin Titus and Jeffy Cady; and several nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Elmer was a member of the Zalmona Presbyterian Church, where he had served as organist, Sunday school teacher, elder and trustee.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 7, 1992 at 1:30 p.m. in the Zalmona Presbyterian Church, rural Waukon, the Rev. James A. Jacobson officiating. The soloist was Ruby Herman, and the organist was Mildred Osterholz. The Schutte Funeral Home of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casketbearers were Donald Denning, Dave Flage, Irvin Flage, Leo Flage, Ralph Flage and Eddie Winters.
