Funeral services for Roland Koehring were held Friday, January 28, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church at rural Postville, Iowa. The Rev. James Walker officiated. Shirley Brainard was the organist and Barbara Guese was the soloist. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Roland Robert Koehring, the son of Charles Koehring and Lydia (Shafer) Koehring, was born June 27, 1923 in the Postville Hospital at Postville, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2000 at his home in Ludlow Township. He had reached the age of 76 years, six months and 28 days.
He was baptized July 24, 1923 in the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. Roland attended the Ludlow Country School No. 8 near his home and was graduated from the Waukon High School.
On August 15, 1949 he was married to Margaret E. Ludeking in the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. To this union three children were born. The family has lived on their farm in Ludlow Township all of their lives.
Roland loved farming and was active even as late as last summer when he raked hay. He also worked in the garden and canned the vegetables that he raised. Roland enjoyed visiting with people and would often go for a ride taking along his dog "Pete". Fishing was a favorite pastime as well.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, who died March 6, 1994, a sister, Viola Opfer, and a brother Wayne Koehring.
Surviving are his children, Lee Koehring of Postville, Sharon (Lyle) Henning of Ossian, Iowa, and Sandra Koehring of Postville and two grandchildren, Travis Henning of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Jill Henning who is a junior at UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Roland was a lifetime member of the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.
