Louise C. Kirkeby, 61, of Waukon, died Sun., Feb. 4, 2001, at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI.

Funeral services will be held Wed., Feb. 7, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, under the direction of Rev. Lynn G. Groe. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Louise Charlotte Gilbertson Kirkeby was born on July 2, 1939, in rural Waukon. Her parents were Oscar and Lillian (Johnson) Gilbertson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church and spent her early years in the Round Prairie area of Allamakee County before moving with her parents to rural Winneshiek County. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Decorah High School in 1958.

On April 30, 1966, she married Harlan Kirkeby at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Louise worked for a time as a nurse's aid at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. She lived in rural Decorah following her marriage and in the city of Decorah from 1987 until the fall of 2000, at which point she moved to Waukon.

Louise was a life-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Circle. Louise enjoyed riding horses, visiting with friends and family, keeping up with the news, and doing jigsaw puzzles. She was particularly fond of being with children and often babysat for friends and relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Harlan, of Decorah; a son, Eric, of Waukon; and several aunts and cousins. Casketbearers were Lyle Larson, Jeff Teslow, David Sorum, Douglas Dickman, Eddy Knuppe, and Herbert Halvorson.
