Karen Jean Koenig West, 65, Decorah, Iowa, formerly of Postville, Iowa, died Monday, November 2, 2009, at the Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah, Iowa, following a courageous battle with lymphoma. Private Family Memorial Services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009, at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa.

Inurnment will take place at the Postville Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 5, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa.

Karen was born on October 10, 1944, in Decorah, Iowa, to Leonard and Florence (Snitker) Koenig. She graduated from Postville High School, Postville, Iowa.

Karen was united in marriage to Gary West on September 12, 1965. Two daughters, Tami and Tara, were born to this union. They were later divorced. Karen worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for seven years and later at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa.

Karen was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Karen will be greatly missed by the many people who knew her.

Survivors include two daughters, Tami (Chris) Clarke of Springville, Tara (John) Breon of Boone; five grandchildren, Brittany, Andrew, Nathan, Kylee and Nicholas; her twin sister, Sharon (Gary) Johnson of Cresco, IA; one brother, James (Darlene) Koenig of Byron, MN and her nieces and nephews, Brandon (Sarah) Marsh, Brent (Jennifer) Johnson, Joseph (Amy) Koenig, Dawn and Danielle Koenig.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Florence Koenig and her two brothers, Ronald and Leon Koenig.
