Mrs. Elizabeth Schreiber, wife of the late Joseph M. Schreiber, residing north of Waukon on the Schreiber homestead, died Tuesday morning, September 4th at 5 o'clock. Her husband preceded her in death two weeks less than a year ago. A little more than a year later her brother, John, died at his home nearby.
Mrs. Schreiber was born at Bern, Switzerland, May 29, 1842. She was the oldest of six children, John who just died, Emily, Caroline, Anna, and Rudolph. At the age of twelve years she came to America with her parents. The first few years they resided in Dubuque and the remainder she resided in Allamakee County. She was united in marriage with Joseph Schreiber April 16, 1866. this union was blessed with five children, Mrs. Lizzie Haas, Waukon; Mrs. Mary Larson, Lansing; Mrs. Katie Haas, Waukon; Miss Anna at home; and Emma Dee, Waukon, by whom she is survived with six living grandchildren and six nephews.
She resided on the homestead from the day of her marriage 'til the heavenly Father called her home, proving herself a most faithful wife and self-denying mother, having reached the age of past 75 years.
May our Lord comfort the bereaved in the assurance of a blessed reunion.
Rev. Fledderjohann conducted the funeral services which were held Thursday.
Note: Unnamed in the obituary is Elizabeth's sister, Marianna, who died in infancy in Switzerland and another sister, Marianna (Mary) Spring also deceased, who had lived in Madison, Wisconsin.
