Raymond Gress Loses Life in Truck Accident
Raymond E. Gress, driver for one of Dave Feldstein's trucks, was accidently killed while ddriving one of the trucks, last Friday night, November 24, near Zwingle, Iowa, on Highway 61. The accident occurred about 10:30 o'clock according to reports. Feldstein reported his loss at approximately $5,000. 250 cases of beer were reported gone shortly after the accident. Mr. Gress had left Davenport where he had the truck filled with a load of beer with approximately 400 cases. The Dodge truck with Kingston semi-trailer, he was driving crashed into a tree, and it is believed that he was immediately killed. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Martin Funeral Home with Elder Curtis Webster officiating. Burial was made in the Postville Cemetery. Born in Postville, January 20, 1920, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gress. He received his education the Postville Schools. On November 6, 1939, he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Hamann at Monona, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Ardith Joan 3, Harold Dean 2, and Raymond Edward, 1 year old. Besides his wife and children, Mr. Gress leaves to mourn his utimely death his father, Leon Gress of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; four brothers and four sisters namely; Mrs. Melva Klein, Waukon; Mrs. Lottie Miller of Waukon; Mrs. Vera Sutter of Elgin, Iowa; Mrs. Margie Fuller of McGregor, Lester, Cedar Rapids, Claude of Waukon; LeRoy of Kansas City, Missouri, Clifford of Anamosa, Iowa, besides a host of relatives and friends. His mother preceded him in death in 1930. Pallbearers at the services were Harry Saewert, Arthur Hanson, Ray Mitchum, Charles Ball, Paul and Walter Bruehan.
