Fred Schoenthal

The death of Fred Schoenthal, a former resident of Lansing, occurred at Dubuque on Dec. 14, following an extended illness.

He was born at Center Grove, Iowa, March 14, 1861. In 1880 he came to Lansing, where he was employed in the lumber mills. Later he engaged in farming near Churchtown, and in Ludlow and Jefferson townships. In the spring of 1904 he moved to a farm near Windsor, Mo., and in 1914 to one near Dubuque, where he had since resided.

He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Emma Meier of Rossville, who died in 1901. Two children were born to this union, Edward of near Waukon and Mrs. Roy Marshall of Windsor, Mo. In 1902 he was wedded to Miss Imogene Hastain of Windsor. They became the parents of three sons, George of Dubuque; Harold, Chester and Fred at home.

Besides the above named he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Henry Bechtel, Sr., of Lansing, two half sisters and a half-brother, namely Emma and Ed. Berger and Mrs. Walter Magnusson, all of Grand Forks, N. D.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 16 at the Methodist church in Center Grove, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. J. Starr. Burial took place in the cemetery adjoining the church and was in charge of the Odd Fellows lodge of which he was a member.
