Michael Manning died December 10, 1915. His obituary from the December 22, 1915, edition of the Allamakee Journal, Lansing, IA, reads:

Death of Mike Manning

After a lingering illness of several months duration with a complication of diseases, Mr. Michael Manning passed to his eternal reward early Friday morning, Dec. 10, 1915. All that loving hearts and hands could do and all that the best medical skill could advise was resorted to but all in vain and death came as a relief to that tired, patient soul who was always so cheerful and bore up bravely through all his suffering. His one greatest desire was to have his immediate family and his brothers and sisters around him and which they surely complied with, making every effort to be constantly at his bedside. Mr. Manning was aged 54 years and leaves to mourn his loss a wife and five grown sons, namely, John, Thomas, Kerr, Leo and Willie, all residing at home, besides four sisters, Mesdames Kate Murphy, Mary Gleason, Thos. Brennan and Will Whalen, and three brother, John and James of this vicinity and Jerry Manning of Beresford, S. D., the latter arriving on Saturday to be present at the funeral. His parents and two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Mr. Manning was a man of sterling worth esteemed by all and will be sadly missed in the home where he always took such an interest. He was a kind husband and father and will also be missed in this community, having the confidence of all who know him. He died fortified by the last rites of the Catholic Church of which he was a good living member. During the time previous to the funeral a large number of relatives, neighbors and old friends came to pay their last respects to the departed and on Monday one of the largest funeral processions ever seen in these parts followed the remains to their last resting place in Wexford where, after a Solemn Requiem Mass, his remains were laid to rest in the cemetery close by. Those from away who came to be present at the funeral were his sister, Mrs. Mary Gleason of Waterloo, his brother Jerry of Beresford, S.D., and several were in attendance from Lansing. May the soul of the departed rest in peace and may God give strength to those who are left to bear their loss with patience and resignation. Peace to his soul.
