Irvin Olson
Memorial services for Irvin Olson, age 82, of Augusta, Montana, will be held Saturday, August 12, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. in the Augusta Community church at Augusta, Montana. he died July 29, 2000 of natural causes while visiting family in Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. David Knight will be officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in the Augusta Cemetery under the direction of Gorder Funeral Home of Choteau. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Olson was born April 17, 1918 on the family farm south of Postville in Grand Meadow Township. His parents were Joseph T. and Irene (Kittleson) Olson. He graduated from the Clermont High School in 1936 and was attending his class reunion when he passed away.
Irvin served in the US Air Force from April 1941 through February 1962, serving many places both in Europe and the United States. He was a prisoner of war in Germany from January 1944 to July 1945.
On June 15, 1946 he was married to Martha B. Campbell in Rapid City, South Dakota. She died in February of 1988.
Irvin was in Civil Service as aircraft maintenance at Malstrom Air Force Base from 1964 to 1972. His main interest was his wood working shop, "Ole" in Augusta, where he made clocks and shelves with a homemade jigsaw. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by a son, Daryl Olson, and his wife, Teresa, of Augusta, Montana, a daughter, Patricia Burke, of Bellevue, Tennessee, a brother, Cliff J. Olson and wife, Ida Mae, of Postville, grandsons, Nathaniel Olson of Augusta, Montana, Chad Olson of Wolf Point, Montana, and Joe Olson of Miles City, Montana.
