John N. Davis Dies Sunday

Paralytic Stroke Is Fatal To Waukon Resident At Age of Eighty Years

John N. Davis died Sunday evening at his home on West Main Street. He suffered a light paralytic stroke January 2nd, and since then his condition had been serious. He was 80 years old. John Davis was born May 13, 1854 in Ripley County, Indiana. When he was 12 years old he came to Allamakee County with his parents and they settled on a farm near Frankville. On Dec. 24, 1876, he married Lodema Ewing. They made their home on a farm in Post township until the year of 1906, at which time they came to Waukon, and this city has been their home for the past 29 years. Ten children were born to this union, who with the wife and mother are left to mourn his death. They are Evora R. and Leo E. Davis of Chicago; Lester of Bruce, Wis.; Arthur H of Blue River, Wis., and Mrs. Leona D. Rupp, Charles V., Byrl, Carl M., Ben A., and Jake J., all of Waukon. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the home and the Presbyterian Church conducted by the Reverend R.L. VanNice and L.L. Bond. Burial was made in Oakland Cemetery. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral are his daughter, Evora Davis and Granddaughter Leona Fiet, Leo E. Davis and wife of Chicago, Lester Davis of Bruce, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Davis and two children of Blue River, Wisconsin.
