FARLEY, Iowa - Helen A. (Walleser) Freiburger, 83, of Farley, formerly of Peosta, died peacefully surrounded by her family at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, after an extended illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray, rural Peosta, with the Rev. Richard Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, Iowa, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

She was born on Aug. 27, 1919 in Garnavillo, Iowa, daughter of Joe and Etta (Berns) Walleser. On Nov. 28, 1942, she married John C. Freiburger.

She received her education in the country schools in Clayton County, and in Tilston Manitoba, Canada. Helen was a talented spirited lady, best known for her true love of flowers, especially her "iris" plants, that she shared with everyone who loved them as much as she did. Helen enjoyed making lap robe quilts and sharing them with all the people that she loved. We will remember her telling of her memories of the "Canadian Prairie."

Helen loved her Lord, her family, and the Iowa soil in which she now will be laid to rest.

Surviving are her children, Joan (Joe) Harter, of Petersburg, Connie Pottebaum, of Earlville, John (Janice) Freiburger and Dan (Linda) Freiburger, both of Peosta, and Anita (Jerry) McDermott, of Farley; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 11 siblings she was proud of, Stanley (Velma) Walleser, of Desota, Wis., Chip Walleser, Duke (Esther) Walleser, and Louis (Joan) Walleser, all of Lansing, Alice Griffin, of Dayton, Ohio, Willi (Gerald) Finkral, of Meadow Grove, Neb., Isabelle (Bud) Hawes, of Lansing, and Phyllis (Lu) Kimsey and Colleen (Del) Brown, both of Fort Collins, Colo.; and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Walleser and Delores Walleser, both of Lansing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Freiburger, in 1971; an infant son, John C. Freiburger; two brothers, Edwin and Bill Walleser; and a sister-in-law, Millie Walleser.
