Obert Harris Rites Held at Postville

Funeral services for Obert Harris, 72, of Postville, were held Thursday, April 1, at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, with Rev. Charles E. Witt, Pastor of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church officiating.

Burial was in the Postville cemetery.

Mr. Harris died Saturday, March 27, at the Good Samaritan Home in Cresco, where he had been a resident for the last two years.

He was born the son of William and Carrie, nee Segrist, Harris, Jan. 13, 1893, at Postville. He was baptized at the Bethel church and received his education in the rural schools near Postville.

He was married to Clara Kline, Nov. 7, 1912. The couple farmed in Allamakee county until 1947, when they moved to Postville, where he was employed for about eight years by Hall Roberts' Son.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Martin of Postville; and one sister, Mrs. Ed (Florence) Barnes of Clermont.

He is survived by his wife; seven sons, George of Lemore, Calif., Donald of Torrance, Calif., Virgil of Bloomingdale, Ill., Milo of Lynxville, Wis., Russell of Manchester, and Robert and Leo of Postville; five daughters, Mrs. Luther (Hazel) Pearcy of Electra, Tex., Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Burnham of Sparta, Wis., Mrs. Vernas (Beulah) Meyer of Postville, Mrs. Marvin (Lula) Kruse of Luana, and Mrs. Robert O. (Gertrude) Bluck of Monona; one brother, Fred of Luana; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Fast of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Ernest (Lucille) Johnson of Dexter, Minn., Mrs. Mae Evans of Waukon, Mrs. Fred (Ella) Lawson and Mrs. Lester (Dora) Smith of Postville; 43 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.

Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Clarence Everman, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Bernie Martin, organist.

Pallbearers were: Roger Harris, Robert Meyer, Henry Rekow, Robert Gruhn, Arbie Heckman, and Clinton Meyer.
