Betty L. Heffern

Betty L. Heffern, 84, of Mason City died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A Funeral Mass was held Thursday, July 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City, with Rev. Jon Seda officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Betty was born March 16, 1925 in Perry, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Young) Brelsford. She graduated from Perry High School and married Cletus J. Heffern June 18, 1949 in Perry. They lived in Union for 12 years before moving to Mason City in 1962.

Betty was truly a devoted wife and mother and her family chuckled many times at the self proclaimed title of "Domestic Engineer." She made friends everywhere she went with her kind and thoughtful nature and she treasured those friendships, especially her friends in the Union area and her friends and neighbors in the Holy Family neighborhood of Mason City.

Betty was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, St. Madonna Circle, Women's Club, Sewing Club, and Art Club.

Betty is survived by her husband, Cletus of Mason City; daughters, Susan (Shawn) Weydert of Mason City and Jane Goodwin of New Hampton; grandson, Jamison Weydert of Mason City; granddaughters, Melissa, Danielle, and Michala Goodwin of New Hampton; and brother, Delbert (Fern) Brelsford of Perry.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Cletus Heffern, in infancy; four brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Marion, and Lloyd; and two sisters, Bula and Katherine.
