Rites Held For Mrs. C.L. Cayton
Son Officiates at Service for MotherPostville - Funeral services for Mrs. Carey L. Cayton, 78, who died at her home March 12, were held at the Schutte funeral parlor here Wednesday afternoon with burial in the Luana cemetery. Services were conducted by the Rev. L.D. Cayton, her son, who has a pastorate in Stratton, Colo.
As Mary Prudence Powell, she was born Nov 24, 1864, at Rossville. She was married May 26, 1886, to Carey L. Cayton at Waukon and they lived most of their life in Allamakee county. She is survived by her son, the Rev. Mr. Cayton, three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Newville of Jamestown, N.Y., Mrs. Agnes Ferguson of Brandon and Mrs. Marian Smith of Monona, three brothers, Clarence of DeSota, Wis., Lawrence of northern Minnesota and A.L. Powell of Monona, as well as seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Carey L. Cayton, 78, a former resident of this community, passed on at her home in Monona last Friday and funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Schutte Funeral Home in this city and at the Evangelical church in Monona. The services were conducted by her son, the Rev. L. D. Cayton, assisted by the Rev. Raduege of Monona. Burial was in the Luana cemetery beside the grave of her husband who had passed away ____ years ago. (Clipping is tore here.)
Mary Prudence Cayton was born on November 20, 1864, at Rossville, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David G. Powell. She was raised and received her education in Allamakee county. On May 26, 1886 she was married to Carey L. Cayton at Waukon, and to them were born three children, Belle (Mrs. Arthur Davis) and Orange, both of whom preceded their mother in death, and Rev. L. D. Cayton who now lives at Stratton, Colorado.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Newville of Jamestown, N. Y., Mrs. Agnes Ferguson of near Brandon, Mrs. Marian Smith of near Monona; three brothers, Clarence Powell of De Sota, Wis., L. C. Powell of northern Minnesota, and A. L. Powell of near Monona; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Those attending the funeral from a distance included, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hamm of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Wheeler of Rock Falls, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. Fern Basquin of near Independence, Iowa.
