Harold Panncke
Funeral services for Harold Panncke were held Tuesday, August 11, 1998, in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, IA. The Rev. T. M. Marks officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Harold Frederick Panncke, the son of Frederick and Caroline (Kahlstorf) Panncke, was born May 19, 1911, at the family farm, rural Luana, IA. He passed away Saturday, August 8, 1998 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, IA. He had reached the age of 87 years, two months and 19 days.
He was baptized on May 25, 1911 and confirmed on September 2, 1928, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville where he was a lifetime member. Harold attended the Luana Consolidated School.
On March 2, 1935, Harold was married to Elvira Davis at Galena, IL. To this union four children were born, Jane, Ruth, Mary and Bill. The couple farmed southwest of Luana on the family farm for over 60 years. The Ridley Threshers Ring was very important to Harold and Elvira. The men and women exchanged work and social events. Many lifetime friendships were formed from this group.
Harold's jobs as a young man that were away from the farm included hauling cream, carpenter work with his Uncle Dan, and welding in Luana. In subsequent years he became a very talented mechanic, and he enjoyed helping friends and neighbors repair their machinery. He liked to hunt and fish, especially pheasant hunting at Britt, IA with his relatives. He served as a member of the Big Four Fair Board for many years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elvira, who died April 12, 1996; his parents; a son-in-law, John Green; brothers-in-law Arno Wilker, John W. Davis, T. Wayne Davis; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Davis.
Surviving are his children, Jane and husband, Leon Blumhagen; Ruth and husband Dan Bruns, all of Postville, Mary and husband, Leland Gayer of Sioux City, and Bill of Luana, IA; eight grandchildren, Alan Blumhagen, Anne Gill, Audrey Tschirgi, Adrian Blumhagen, Barbara Sutton, Wanda Schnuelle, Beth Homeister, and Sarah Gayer; six great grandchildren, Nick Henkes, Cody Henkes, Caymon Blumhagen, Amy Green, Chirstopher Schnuelle, and Andrea Schnuelle; a sister Ella Wilker of Postville and an aunt, Selma Lamker of Monona.
Casket bearers were Fred Wilker, Robert Plaht, Nick Henkes, Ronald Burger, Cody Henkes, Eugene Schutte and Alan Blumhagen.
