J. P. ELLIS

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 18, 2:00 p.m., at the Schutte Funeral Home for J. P. Ellis, Postville blacksmith for many years, who passed away July 12. The Rev. C. E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, was in charge of the rites. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

J. P. Ellis, the son of Jonathan and Lydia Ellis, was born on June 18, 1878 on the Ellis homestead west of Postville, which is now the Walter Eberling farm.

He was married to Carrie Jane Taylor on July 3, 1900. To this union were born nine children, six sons and three daughters. He died at the Community Memorial Hospital on July 12, 1963 at the age of 85 years and 24 days, following a three weeks illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife in April of this year; his parents; two sons, Lyle, and one still born; one sister, Mrs. Will Krambeer of Rudd, and two half sisters, Flavia Hawkins of Postville and Delia Standorf of Princeton, Minnesota.

He is survived by four sons, Clifford and Kenneth of Postville, Roy of Castalia, and Lloyd of Moline, Illinois; three daughters, Ruby, Mrs. T. W. Crago of Wonder Lake, Illinois, Naomi, Mrs. Erwin Hull of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Iva, Mrs. Frank Brucknor of Postville; 25 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He served the community as a blacksmith for 55 years, working continuously in the same location.
