WILLIAM POWELL LAID TO REST

William Francis Powell died Monday, February 11, 1980 at his home, having reached the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 7 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, 1980 at 2:00 p.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona. Rev. William Johnson officiated. Burial was in Smithfield Cemetery, rural Luana. Pallbearers were Harva Oelbert, Lloyd Clark, Vernie Engelhardt, Fred miller, Everett Bollman, Lloyd Lamborn, Charles Fick, and Donald Berg.

William Francis Powell, the son of Ainsworth and Nettie Rist Powell, was born September 4, 1897 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While a youth he moved to this area. On February 21, 1923, he was united in marriage to Mabel Carney. To this union one son, Lawrence, was born.

He was a farmer and electrician, still doing electrical work. He loved poetry and would write beautiful poems for his relatives and friends. He loved everyone and with his wife enjoyed fishing on their pontoon boat, which they built together.

Preceeding him in death were his parents and brother, Clyde. Surviving him are his wife, Mabel; his son, Lawrence and daughter-in-law Patricia of Luana; two granddaughters, Mrs. Kim (Lori) Thies and Lisa Powell; a great-granddaughter, Amy Thies; two brothers, Louis of Waukon and Harvey of Fort Dodge; three sisters, Mrs. Kurt (Lessie) Falb of Harrison, Arkansas, Mrs. Harley (Thelma) Cowell of Postville, and Mrs. Otis (Lillian) Stockton of Normal, Illinois.
