Agnes Otelia Drogset, 96, died Friday Jan 11 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan 15 at St.John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. The Rev. Lynn Groe officiated at the 11a.m. service. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery. Martin's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Andreas Odegaard and Maren Hunstad Hanson, she was born Feb 17, 1894 on her parents' farm in Taylor Township, Allamakee County.
She attended rural Allamakee County Schools, and Valders College in Decorah. October 4, 1916 she married Alfred Bakkom at the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. Alfred died May 14, 1959. February 6, 1963, she was united in marriage with Alexander Drogset at St.John's Lutheran Church. He died Dec. 28, 1975.
Agnes was a rural school teacher. She also worked with her husband Alfred on their farm east of Waukon and then later in operating the Bakkom Store, a grocery and meat market in downtown Waukon. They farmed for five or six years and then moved to Waukon around 1922. Eventually they sold their grocery store to Ozzie Quandahl, somewhere in the mid 40s. She also worked at Hale's Dept. Store in Waukon.
Agnes belonged to women's organizations at St.John's Lutheran Church, where she was a member. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husbands, Alfred and Alexander, were five brothers, Herman Hanson, Otto Odegard, Carl Odegaard, Eilert Hanson, and John Hanson, and three sisters, Helen Houg, Martha Kolsrud, and Melva Todd. Agnes was the last of a pioneer family of nine children. When Andreas came to America, his name was Odegaard. In America he changed it to Hanson. Otto and Carl had their names changed back to Odegaard, and spelled one name with one (a) and one with two.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mrs. William (Ruth) Powell of Raliegh, NC; four step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers were Lonnie Tysland, Regi Tysland, Derek Todd, Roger Melcher, Scott Melcher, Steve Hanson, Herbert Dehli, and Myron Odegard.
