Ernst T. Paulsen

Services were held Sunday, August 19 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for Ernst T. Paulsen who died August 16 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.

Ernst Theodore Paulsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johannas Paulsen, and (sic) Dorothy Miller, was born March 30, 1889 in Keil, Germany and was baptized there May 5, 1889. He came to America at the age of 15 with his parents and was confirmed into St. Paul Lutheran Church on March 27, 1904 where he remained a faithful member.

On January 28, 1913 he was married to Alma Funk of Luana with his brother serving as officiating pastor. To this union five children were born.

Mr. Paulsen farmed in the Luana and Postville area until his retirement at which time he moved into Postville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, December 15, 1965, a brother Henry and a sister Rosa, who died in Germany; a brother Rev. William Paulsen of Cedar Rapids and a grandson, Lorenz E. (Buddy) Pape.

Surviving are his five children, Herold of Mesa, Arizona; Harvey of Elgin; Henry, Postville; Hazel (Mrs. Lorenz Pape), Postville; Hilda (Mrs. Eugene Horstman), Guttenberg; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a brother John of Loomis, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
