Frank Fay
Frank Fay was born March 29, 1869 in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county. He was the son of James Fay and Elizabeth Shriner Fay.
He was married to Effie Hamm. To them were born two children, a son Oliver Hammon Fay who preceded his father in death on April 4, 1930, and a daughter Pearl Elizabeth (Mrs. Frank Cahalan) Cedar Rapids. He was 77 years old at the time of his death.
They farmed the first years and in 1917 moved to Clermont where he was secretary of the creamery, employed in the bank and lumber company, and was manager of the Farmers Elevator Co., for a number of years. He was taken ill in March and about 6 weeks ago was taken to the hospital at Iowa City where he underwent the amputation of a leg. Death came to him peacefully Saturday morning, Oct. 5 at 10:30.
He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, daughter, 11 grand children and 3 great grandchildren; his brother, Charles of Postville and sister, Mrs. John Eno of Luana, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death a few years ago by his two brothers, George Fay of Postville and Dr. Oliver Fay of Des Moines.
The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. Peter's Catholic church. Father Robert Cooney officiating assisted by Fr. Leo. O'Connell of Britt, a former pastor who preached the sermon. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.

Fay, Patrick and Robert of Independence, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cahalan and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Burrow and Linda of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Fay, Mr. and Mrs. Kluss, Mr. and Mrs. George Farmer, Mr. and Mrs. Rieder, Mrs. Charles Cavanaugh, Mrs. Walter DeLong, Mrs. Clem Dunn all of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Morris, Mrs. George Johnson, Mrs. Frank Rounds and Elizabeth of Oelwein, Mrs. Marion Shea, George Matone and Bert Cahalan of Cedar Rapids.

Note: In the Oct. 7, 1946 Oelwein Daily Register it says “a son Oliver, of Independence preceded him in death 16 years ago.”
