Lowell Brandt

Lowell D. Brandt, 58, of Iowa City died Wednesday evening, December 3, 2008 at home following an apparent heart attack. Memorial Services were held Saturday, December 6 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with Revs. Marsha Accord and Calvin Yoder officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation for the Lowell Brandt Scholarship in Rehabilitation Counseling at the UI College of Education. Condolences may be directed to P.O. Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52244.

Lowell was born in Waukon, the son of Wesley and Ethel Brandt. He was a graduate of Postville High School, and received his BA in History and MA in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Iowa.

May 25, 1973 Lowell married Paula Overland in Postville.

Lowell was the warden of the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale. Prior to his appointment as the warden, Lowell had been employed with the Iowa Department of Corrections for over 35 years. His memberships include both the American and the Iowa Correction Associations.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Paula; his mother, Ethel of Decorah; his siblings, Loren (Janine) Brandt and Janice (Mike) Koenig, both of Postville and JoAnn (Kurt) Uhlenhake of Ossian; his mother-in-law, Margaret of Postville; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jennifer (Mark) Zieman of Postville, Jeff Overland of New Haven, CT and Joel Overland of Spring Green, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lowell was preceded in death by his father.
