Frederick Volker

Frederick William "Rick" Volker, 60, of Waterloo died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13 at Grace Reformed Church in Waterloo. Public visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. The body will not be present, as he was cremated. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo assisted the family.

He was born August 21, 1948 in Waterloo, son of Frederick W. and Maxine "Mickey" Adams Volker. He married Donna Howlett March 21, 1981 in Cedar Falls.

Frederick was a member of the U.S. Chess Federation and the Waterloo Chess Club. He was also the founder of both the Commadore Computer Club and the Amiga Computer Club.

Survivors include his wife of Waterloo; his step-parents, George and Carol Loy of Waterloo; two daughters, Maryanne (Jeff) Harris of Lansing and Katheryn (Clint) Stainbrook of Waterloo; one brother, Kim (Deborah) Volker of Lansing; one sister, Michelle Zummak of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; five foster grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Robert Hall.
