Lloyd E. Martin 1938-2008

Lloyd E. Martin, 70, of Waukon died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 25 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Rev. Marie Paterik officiating. Burial with military graveside rites was held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Lloyd Edward Martin was born July 8, 1938 in Waukon, the son of Edward and Florence (Dresselhaus) Martin. He was baptized at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Eitzen, MN and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Lloyd attended elementary school in the Eitzen area and graduated from Waukon High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1961 to 1967.

October 21, 1962 he married Carol Kruger at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Lloyd worked in several grocery stores, including the Waukon Equity Grocery Store, Clifton's Grocery Store, and Heimer Supervalu for 33 years as their produce manager and most recently at Quillin's Food Ranch, all in Waukon.

Lloyd was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Allamakee County SnoBlazers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding snowmobile, dancing, listening to country music and going to car shows. Lloyd also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he was known for his quick wit and his jokes.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Martin of Waukon; his children, Duane (Robin) Martin of Cambridge, WI and Brian (Teresa) Martin of Waukon; five grandchildren, Kolby, Nathan, Austin, Brittany and Kayla Martin; two brothers, Kermit Martin of Waterville and Walter (Peggy) Martin of Lansing; two sisters, Sharon (Randy) Dishinger of Waterloo and Joyce (Robert) Headington of West Union; a brother-in-law, Galerd Ehde of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Rosalie Ehde.

Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren. Casketbearers are Butch Johnson, Robert Dresselhaus, Kevin Martin, Randy Ehde, Larry Headington and Stanley Krambeer.
