Donald R. Gray, 61, of Waukon, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Waukon, following an accident at work for United Co-op. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11 at Zion United Church of Christ, Waukon with Rev. Richard Eick officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted with the arrangements.
Donald Ralph Gray was born on December 21, 1940, in Oelwien, IA, the son of Ralph and Marian (Sackett) Gray. He attended Fayette Elementary School and graduated from Fayette High School. After high school, he served in the National Guard, then he moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he worked on computers.
On June 3, 1967, he married Evelyn Bechtel at the Methodist Church in Decorah. They later moved to Waukon, where he drove semi for Blocker's Milling Service before he started working for United Co-op. Donald was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, where he and Evelyn where custodians for several years. He enjoyed his work, golfing, and horses.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Waukon; one daughter, Hollie Gray and friend Allen Moore of Bagley, WI; one son, Lance Gray of Waukon, and friend Crystal Bitz of Rochester, MN; and one sister, Donna Lau of Thorp, WI.
Honorary casketbearers are Dave, Danny, Rick, and Jerry Burr, Stacy Bechtel, Larry Lau, Gary Bahr, Maurice Blocker, Kenny Topel, Jim McCormick, and Verland Lenth. Casketbearers are Chad Keehner, Allen Moore, Larry Burr, Roger Bechtel, Jim Lau, and Wayne Topel.
