Maxine Meyer

Maxine Meyer, age 86 years, eight months, and 24 days, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at her home in Postville. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 25. 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, with Greg Hamm presiding. Special music was provided by Joann Martins, organist. Casketbearers were Eric Meyer, Ben Meyer, Joshua Loftsgard, Evan Meyer, and Nathan Meyer. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Maxine Doris (Hunsberger) Meyer was born September 28, 1921 near Elgin to Max William and Dina Sophia (Kirkeberg) Hunsberger. She was baptized December 20, 1921 by the Reverend Gustav Gusten in St. Paul Methodist Church at Elgin and confirmed April 3, 1947 by the Reverend Frederick R. Ludwig in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. She attended Elgin High School and graduated in 1938.

August 8, 1945 Maxine was married to Lloyd Carl John Meyer by the Reverend F.L. Hanson in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. To this union five children were born.

Maxine worked at the Farmer's Store in Postville for many years. She always enjoyed dressing up and looking nice. She enjoyed attending her PWP Group (Parents without Partners) and the Red Carpet Club. Two favorites of her many hobbies were dancing and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and all their get-togethers.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd Carl John Meyer; a brother, Elmer; and a sister, Edna.

Surviving are her five children, Bruce (Lynne) Meyer of Decorah, Burton Meyer of Marshfield, WI, Beverly (Jerry) Loftsgard of Elgin, Russell (Mary Jo) Meyer of Waukon, and Roger (Sue) Meyer of Decorah; 11 grandchildren, Tami (Andy) Claybaugh, Dawn (Travis) Hughes, Benjamin Meyer, Eric (Sara) Meyer, Shannon (Gage) Sizemore, Jillian (Jerry) Weldon, Joshua (Stephanie Frederich) Loftsgard, Bailey Meyer, Nathan Meyer, Elise (Phil Linn) Meyer, and Evan (Shana Vine) Meyer; 10 great-grandchildren, Allison and Kyle Claybaugh, Mackenzie Hughes, Logan and Zakary Meyer, Dylan, Wesley, and Brody Sizemore, Bryce Weldon, and Caleb Meyer; and her special friend, Elaine Kenney.
