Obituary--Richard R. Ericson.
Richard R. Ericson was born Oct. 1. 1864, in Sweden and came to this country and Allamakee county, Ia., with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Ericson, when two and a half years old. Center township has been his home ever since.
After a lingering illness he fell asleep in Jesus March 26th, 1937, at Midway Hospital, St. Paul, Minn., at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 25 days.
At the age of 21 years he was converted and joined the Village Creek Baptist Church, of which he was a faithful member until his death.
January 31, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Cora Aldrich, who preceded him in death 3 months and 28 days. Six children were born to them, two of whom preceded their parents in death--Edwin at the age of five years and Eugene at the age of sixteen years. He is mourned by two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Clair of Moline, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Reetz; two sons, Edgar and Reuben at home; also by two brothers, Thure T. Ericson and Fred W. Ericson of Waukon, and one sister, Mrs. Constance Aldrich of Church, Iowa.
Mr. Ericson lived a quiet, unassuming life, patient and cheerful. He was always ready to reach out the "glad hand" to any and all he met, and to know him was to love him. He will be greatly missed in the home, the community and among his relatives.. "Blessed are they who die in the Lord" Peace to his memory.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home and Swedish Baptist church, and largely attended considering the bad conditon of the roads. Rev. J. R. Lindblom, the local pastor, assisted by Rev. C. H. Hoffman of Church, officiated. At the home Geo. Aschom sang "Some time We'll Understand" and at the church he rendered two solos, "Beautiful Land on High" and "the Old Rugged Cross," Mrs. Aschom acting as accompanist. Pallbearers were six nephews: Leslie Colbornson, Isadore, Alvin, Delbert and Hillard Aldrich, and Aldrich Johnson. Interment was made in the family lot in the cemetery adjoining the church.
