William Zimmerman, Lifelong Resident of Center, Dies Tuesday

Born May 21, 1878, at Church; Funeral will be Held Friday Afternoon.

The Churchtown community was shocked and deeply grieved to learn of the death of one of its best beloved citizens, Wm. F. Zimmerman, Tuesday morning after an illness of but a few days. He was taken sick Thursday last with what was thought to be mumps and his demise followed five days later from resultant complications.

William F. Zimmerman was born in Center township, Allamakee county, May 21, 1878, and had lived his entire life in that township. He was married to Christine Schellhammer on April 7, 1910, in Lansing. This union was blessed with four children as follows; Herbert, Esther, Walter and Sylvia. The happy union lasted 17 years until the death of his first wife, which occurred Feb. 5, 1927. He was married for the second time to Mrs. Anna Wild, of French Creek township, on January 14, 1930, just six years to the day of his death. The fruit of this union was one daughter, Shirley Ann, aged 3 years. He leaves besides his sorrowing widow and children, five step-children, Orabell, Eleanore, Milton, Sylvia and Arlene; also his aged mother, Mrs. Caroline Zimmerman, and two brothers, Charles and Fred Zimmerman.

Mr. Zimmerman was a man who had made many friends through his willingness to work and help his friends and neighbors. he was devoted husband and father and for many years had been an active and faithful member of the congregational church of Churchtown, where he had served as director for several years. He will be greatly missed in the home, in the church, and in the community.

Funeral Friday, 1:30 p.m. at the home, 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial in Lansing Ridge cemetery, Rev. C. H. Hoffman officiating.
