Death of Mrs. Chas Zimmerman
Death came to relieve the sufferings of Mrs. Charles Zimmerman on Sunday noon, Nov. 16th, about one o'clock. She had been ill for several years with an incurable disease and passed away on the day of her 26th wedding anniversary.
As Amelia Bechtel, she was born November 15, 1869, on the old homestead in Center township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bechtel, pioneer settlers of that vicinity. She was educated in the rural schools and on Nov. 16th, 1915, was married to Mr. Charles Zimmerman, who preceded her in death suddenly a couple of years ago. No children blessed this union and immediate survivors are two brothers, Matt Bechtel of Lansing and Joe Bechtel of near Churchtown.
Mrs. Zimmerman was a life-long member of the Congregational church and while able was an active and capable worker. She was a true Christian woman, a charitable neighbor and true friend and her passing brings deepest sorrow to a host of friends.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Martin Bros. funeral home in Waukon and at 2:30 at the Congregational church at Churchtown, Rev. Henry Marks officiating and saying the prayers at the graveside. Interment was in the Lansing Ridge cemetery, with her life-long neighbors and friends, Chas. and Will Rissman, Fremond Bechtel, Tade Gruber, Charles Schellhammer and Sam Decker, acting as pallbearers.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bechtel, and several nurses and friends, of La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Boos of New Hampton, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bieber, Charles City.
