Viola Mount
Viola M. Mount, 93, of Waukon died Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 4 p.m. scripture service.
Viola Marie Haas Mount was born February 6, 1915, the daughter of Clem and Mae (Sickels) Knickerbocker, in Littleport. When she was a young girl her family moved to a farm in the Wexford area where Viola attended elementary country schools. November 24, 1932 she married Leo J. Haas in Galena, IL. They moved to the Haas family farm in the Lycurgus area where they farmed for several years. Leo died in January of 1950.
December 28, 1950 she married Floyd Mount, Sr. at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church. Viola and Floyd stayed on the Haas farm where they farmed together for many years. Floyd died in 1978.
Viola was a member of St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, collecting fine china and decorating the interior of her home. Viola loved spending time in the outdoors taking care of the animals, especially her cats and horses, and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Rose Kessel of Waterloo, Earl (Bev) Haas, Edith (Richard) Bloxham, and Douglas (Joyce) Haas, all of Waukon; Floyd (Susan) Mount of Decorah, and Elaine Doyle of Giard; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Velma Walleser of Viroqua, WI; two sisters-in-law, Alberta Knickerbocker of Lansing and Marie Mount of Waukon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a daughter, Violet Kingsbury; a son, Charles Haas; a sister, Beulah Heuer; two brothers, Alfred and Arthur Knickerbocker; and two sons-in-law, Carl Kessel and Jay Doyle.
Honorary casketbearers are her granddaughters, Tammy Canoy, Ruth Lembke, Shari Peterson, Rhonda Seibert, Julie Snitker, Sarah Blair, Chrissy Dixon and Heidi Espolits. Casketbearers are her grandsons, Rick, Tom, Brad and Craig Bloxham, Scott, Cory, T.J., Kevin and Charlie Haas, Brian Kessel, Luke and Sam Mount, Mike Batista, Clark and Greg Lewey.
