Infant Emma Kay Victoria Smith

With broken hearts and empty arms, Rusty Smith and Melissa Vick-Smith are saddened to announce their baby girl, Emma Kay Victoria Smith, was heaven sent and sent to heaven Monday, March 17, 2008 at 12:21 a.m. at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at Iles Funeral Homes - Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 28 with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Emma is survived by her parents, Rusty Smith and Melissa Vick-Smith of Des Moines; maternal grandparents, Mark and Vicki Vick of Decorah; paternal grandparents, Sondra and Gary VanGundy of Ankeny and Darwin Smith of Des Moines; maternal great-grandparents, Irene Steele of Waukon and Gordon and Gloria Vick of Lewiston, MN; paternal great-grandmother, Agnes Stith of New Castle, WY; aunts Michelle (Vick) and Josh Giddings and Marcie (Vick) and Austin Dodd, all of Altoona, and Megan (Vick) and Tony Buls of Sumner; uncle Wally and Janis Smith of Altoona; and cousins Ian Giddings, Baby Dodd, and Emily and Isabel Smith, all of Altoona. Emma was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandfather, Ralph "Philly" Steele.
