Elizabeth Ralston Steele

The venerable widow of the late David Steele passed to her eternal rest Tuesday, aged 87 years. She was born in Pennsylvania, and had been a resident of this vicinity for many years. The funeral will be held from the house Thursday afternoon at one o’clock, the services to be conducted by Rev. Temple of the M.E. Church.

Elizabeth Ralston was born Oct, 31, 1822 in Jamestown, Pennsylvania, and died at her home in Waukon April 13, 1909, aged 86 years, 6 months and 12 days.

She was married on March 27th, 1845 to David Steele, to which union were born 9 children, all of whom survive their parents. For 62 years this couple lived together sharing their trails and triumphs of life from which they both rest in peace.

Their early married life was spent in Pennsylvania and in April of 1865 they moved to Iowa. Mrs. Steele was converted early in life and united with the Presbyterian Church in her home town.

She was received into the Methodist Episcopal church of Waukon in 1869, under the ministry of Rev. Wicker. Sister Steele has been an earnest and faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ. He was her comfort and consolation, and in the closing day of her life, a biding companion.

She was an affectionate and devoted wife, tender and loving mother, and a tired and true neighbor. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Rev, Temple conducting the services.
