Obituary in Waukon Republican Standard, February 13, 1962:

"Mrs. John Crowe Died Saturday

Mrs. John Crowe, 79, died Saturday after a short illness. Her funeral was held Tuesday morning at St. Joseph church at Paint Rock. The rosary was said Monday evening at Bakke and Hanson funeral home.

Mrs. Crowe, the former Johanna Fitzgerald, was born May 9, 1882, at Wexford, daughter of the Edward Fitzgeralds. Before her marriage she was a teacher. She was married February 9, 1904 to John Crowe, who died Aug. 21, 1920. She and her son Marcus had lived on the Taylor township farm.

She is also survivied by a daughter, Mrs. George Troendle, rural Waukon; one grandchild; and one brother, Timothy Fitzgerald, Des Plaines."

"Mrs. Crowe Last Rites, Paint Rock

A mass of requiem was said Tuesday, February 13, at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph church, Paint Rock, for Mrs. Johanna Crowe. The Father John Peters was the officiating clergyman. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery, Paint Rock. Pallbearers were Joseph Kelly, Robert Heffern, Regis Foley, Gerald Cota, Donald Corrigan and Lloyd Meehan. Bakke and Hanson were in charge of funeral arrangements and the rosary was recited at the funeral home Sunday and Monday evenings.

The death of Mrs. Johanna Crowe of Taylor township occurred February 10 following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Crowe was born May 9, 1882, a daughter of Edward and Mary Osborne Fitzgerald of Allamakee county. She attended the local schools and attended a Normal Training school. Mrs. Crowe taught in the Allamakee county schools prior to her marriage February 9, 1904 to John J. Crowe. They lived in Harpers Ferry and McGregor.

Survivors are a son, Marcus, at home and a daughter, Mrs. Geo. Troendle of Makee township, also a brother Timothy H. Fitzgerald and a grandson, John G. Troendle. "
