Julius "Joe" Garwin

Funeral services for Julius "Joe" Garwin were held February 29, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. in the Silverhill Covenant Church, Silverhill, Alabama, with Pastor Jesse Adams officiating. He passed away February 27, 2008 in Alabama. A committal service and burial will take place March 15, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in the Postville Cemetery at Postville, Iowa. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville is in charge of local arrangements.

Julius Patrick Garwin was born January 2, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Julio and Lillian Garcia, from Uruguay, South America. Julius graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.S. in History. He continued his education at the University of Iowa and received a Masters Degree in Social Work. He also attended the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada.

Joe was married to Helen Sander on February 21, 1957. To this union a son, Jonathan David, and a daughter, Lynette Catherine were born. Prior to a car accident in 1973 which rendered Joe wheelchair bound for the rest of his life, Joe was an avid sportsman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jonathan and a son-in-law, Robert Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Helen and daughter, Lynette.

"The Helen Sander that he was married to I show as the daughter of Carl C. and Celia Catherine Heins Sander. Carl C. Sander was the son of Christof / Christopher and Caroline D. Schultz Sander. Celia Catherine Heins was the daughter of William and Minnie Lange Heins."

Postville - Helen (Sander) Garwin, 85, of Robertsdale, Ala., formerly of Postville, died Tuesday, April 01, 2008, at Robertsdale Health Care after a brief illness.

Julius "Joe" Garwin, 85, also of Robertsdale, Ala., died Feb. 27, 2008, at Robertsdale Health Care after a brief illness. Joint graveside services: 1 P.M. Saturday, Postville Cemetery, by Pastor Steve Brackett. Friends may call from 3 to 5 P.M. Friday at Schutte Funeral Home in Postville.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynette Patterson of Daphne, Ala.
