Mrs. MATHEW M. (Martha Ralston) DOWLING 1829-1907

Obituary.

Martha Ralston was born at Jamestown, Penn., August 14, 1829, and died in Waukon, October 15, 1907; aged 78 years, 2 months and 1 day. She was united in marriage with Mathew M. Dowling October 14, 1852, at Jamestown, Penn., who died in 1892 in Waukon. She, with her husband and two children came to Allamakee County in 1866, locating in Waukon. Three children were born to them, Wm. N., who died in infancy, Mrs. Angus McMillan and Dr. J. B. Dowling of this city. She was one of a family of ten children of which only one survives her, Mrs. David Steele of Union Prairie township, the last brother, John Ralston, passing away a few weeks ago at his home at Jamestown, Penn.

Mrs. Dowling united with the M. E. church by letter in 1866, and for over forty years was a devout christian in our midst. She had two homes, one where she lived and the other her church which she loved so dearly.
