Last Rites Held Tuesday For Frank Regan, 71
Elma, Ia., New Era-Frank Regan passed away at the home of his son, Francis Regan, on Feb. 2, 1941, at the age of 71 years 4 months and 9 days. He had been confined to his bed for the past three months, due to a paralytic stroke.
Frank Regan, son of Thomas and Margaret Regan was born Sept. 24, 1869, near Waukon, Iowa. He lived in this vicinity for 26 years. In 1894 he married Mary Thies, also of Waukon, and after living one year at Lycurgus, Iowa, they moved to Howard county and resided near Elma until 1915. Then they moved to their own home, where this happy couple made many friends in the community. They were blessed with five children: Joseph and Mable, who preceded them in death and Celia Biwer of Elma, and Francis and Virgil of Riceville.
During his severe illness, his daughter and two sons patiently cared for him and did all that was in their power to bring comfort to him until he passed into the Great Beyond.
Mr. Regan had a host of friends and everyone who knew him will mourn his passing.
Since the death of his wife in 1938, he remained on his farm southeast of Riceville which is occupied by his son Francis and family.
Besides his three children he leaves to mourn his departure from this earth one brother, John of Elma, and two sisters, Winnie Wells of Fort Worth, Tex., and Catherine Halstead of Austin, Minn. Also seven grandchildren had completed his family circle.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father O’Sullivan of the Riceville church and internment was made in Calvary cemetery in Elma. Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thies of St. Paul; Mrs. Fred Thies of Clear Lake, Iowa; Mrs. Catherine Halstead and son Raymond of Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Wallace Ludwig of Austin, Minn. Mrs. Arthur Hegge of Austin, Minn. Howard, Frank and Elmer Thies of Waukon, Iowa; John Murphy, Mrs. John Howes, Morris and Tom Watters and son, Mrs. Maurice Regan all of Waukon; Mr. Lauren Halsted of Austin, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Stibal of Charles City.
