Norman "Yogi" Howard Johnson
Norman Howard Johnson, son of Gustav and Gunhild (Enerson-Majormoen) Johnson, was born Oct. 23, 1923 at Nordness, Iowa. He passed away at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was 69.
Norman was baptized and confirmed at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church near Decorah, Iowa. He attended rural schools and graduated from the Decorah Public School. "Yogi" served in the U. S. Navy for six years. When he returned to Decorah, he was employed as a construction worker.
On Sept. 20, 1950 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Boese at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. After moving to Postville he was employed at Falb Motor Company for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George, Obert and Emmett Johnson, and a sister Margreth Hamre.
"Yogi" is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Loren and his wife Peggy, and Eric and his wife Karla, all of Postville; and a daughter, Theresa Johnson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nikki, Abby, Kendra and Kassy Johnson; a sister Ellen and her husband Curtis Fjelstul of Ridgeway, and sister-in-laws Francis Johnson and Jean (Johnson) Koler.
Norman was a member of the American Legion, the Postville Drum & Bugle Corps and the Postville Fire Department.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 16, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. Joann Martins served as organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Charlie Boese, Dale Quass, Rick Boese, Kent Boese, Obert Johnson, Randy Sebastian.
