Anna G. (Wagner) Callahan
Anna G. Callahan, 93, of Harpers Ferry Iowa, died suddenly Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon Iowa. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12 at Immaculate Conception Church at Wexford with burial in the church cemetery. The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted the family.
Anna was born July 3, 1914 in Lafayette Township, Allamakee County, to Joe and Mae (Whalen) Wagner. She graduated from I.C. High School in Lansing. She married Elmer Callahan October 27, 1937 at Wexford. They farmed their entire married life in the area.
Anna is survived by six children, Kay (Jim) Hawes of Harpers Ferry, Mary (Tony) Baxter of Waukon, Ralph Callahan of Harpers Ferry, Ray Callahan of Harpers Ferry, Tom (Lavonne) Callahan of Lansing and Jim (Cindy) Callahan of Lansing; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita (Al) Barry of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Gerri Wagner of Harpers Ferry.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, April 18, 1996; twin infant sons; grandson, Joe Hawes; four siblings, Mary Hammel, Helen Peters, Margarette Wagner, and Nick Wagner; and a great-grandson, Cade Nolting.
Casket bearers were Dianna Schwartzhoff, Jill Baxter, Suzanne Gardner, Holly Callahan, Melissa Baxter, Cheryl Nolting, Tracy Stewart, Heather Corwin and Hannah Steiber.
