Funeral services for Ed Hawkins were held Monday, January 21, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, with the Reverend Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Matthew Hawkins, William Little, Cory Little, Scott Dundee, Dean Dundee (Jr.), Chad Hawkins, and Loren "Pete" Dundee. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Edwin Wayne Hawkins was born February 14, 1920, to Sidney and Jessie (Flack) Hawkins, in Linton Township, Allamakee County, near Monona, He passed away Friday morning, January 18, 2008, at his home in Waukon at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 3 days.
April 26, 1946 Ed married Betty Darlene Dundee at the home of her parents by the Reverend Curtis H. Webster. To this union three children were born. They lived in Postville until approximately 1958 when they moved to Waukon and lived there until the present time
Ed attended a one room country school on 16, near his home, where he completed eighth grade. He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945, receiving the American Theater Ribbon, the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theater Ribbons.
Ed had worked as a farm hand for several years, but his major interest was as a mechanic. He was employed for many years at the John Deere Shop, first in Postville and then in Waukon, and Burg Implement in Waukon. He was also self-employed at his own service stations and repair shop. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Ed liked to spend time fishing and visiting with his friends.
Surviving are his three children, Sheryl Ann Hawkins, Texas City, TX, Charles (Roxanne) Hawkins, and Karen (William) Little, all of Waukon, five grandchildren: Cori Little, Hazelton, William Little, Waukon, Chad Hawkins, Garfield, WA, Lisa Hawkins, Lewiston, ID, and Matthew Hawkins, Rossville, ten great grandchildren: Ely and Ethan Hawkins, Garfield, WA; Realynn, Andrea, Sydney and Cassidy Hawkins, Rossville; Wyatt and Clayton Little, Waukon, Emily Little, Boscobel, WI, and Jared Little, Hazelton; a brother, Bob Hawkins, Cedar Rapids, four sisters, Genevive Inger, Cedar Rapids, Ruthie Inger, Robbins, Eunice (John) Kolowinsky, Cedar Rapids, and Madonna Langhorst, Eden Prairie, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Jessie, his wife, Betty, a great granddaughter, Ashley Hawkins, and two brothers, Jack Hawkins and Marvin (Annie) Hawkins and a sister-in-law, Carol.
