MRS. RAY (Alma Nagel) KLEIN VICKERY

Alma Klein Vickery, daughter of August and Minnie (Adams) Nagel, was born November 14, 1905 at her parents Ludlow township farm near Waukon, Iowa. She died January 2, 1995 at Thornton Manor, Lansing, Iowa. She was 89 years old.

Alma was a life long resident of Allamakee county. She attended rural Ludlow Township Schools. On October 27, 1926 she was married to Benjamin Klein at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. He died in 1959. She was married to Ray Vickery on November 15, 1973 at First Presbyterian Church. He died in 1977.

Alma worked as a cook at various Waukon cafes including Theresa Rooney's, Lee Bresnahan's, and the Allamakee Hotel. She also did housekeeping in the area and helped her husband Ben operate the tavern they owned. She liked flowers, gardening, playing the piano, music, sewing, and fishing. She also liked spending time at her cabin on the Mississippi River. She belonged to First Presbyterian Church and participated in the church's ladies organizations when she was able.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Benjamin Klein, husband Ray Vickery, and a brother, Mindert Nagel. She is survived by one son, Gary N. Klein of Waukon; one sister, Lydia Meier of Waukon; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Klein of Waukon, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 4, 1995 at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Larry Olson officiated. Honorary casket bearers were Jesse, Justin and Michael Bulman, Nathan, Lanay and Allie Klein, Kaylee and Kara Peterson. Casketbearers were Gregg Klein, Gary B. Klein, Jerry Bulman, Dave Peterson, Duane Nagel and Scott Nagel. Arrangements were made by Martin Funeral Home of Waukon. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.
