Kathryn M. Roffman, 80, of Waukon died Saturday, December 8, 2007 at her home in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 11 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville.
Kathryn Marie Roffman was born November 23, 1927 in Marquette, the daughter of Kenneth H. and Claudia Bell (Rose) Gordon. She attended the Marquette Schools. September 25, 1943 she married Leonard Lee Roffman in Decorah. Kathryn and Leonard farmed for many years in the Ferris Mills area between Waukon and Decorah. She also worked at Deco Products and Wapsie Produce, both in Decorah. They moved to Waukon in 1978, where she has lived ever since.
While she was living on the farm, Kathryn was an active member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, where she taught Sunday School for several years. All her life she loved being outdoors. She spent many happy times teaching her children to swim and ice skate on the Upper Iowa River, and later enjoyed fishing and gardening. For 20 years, she and Leonard spent a week in August camping along the shores of Lake Superior. Kathryn also enjoyed sewing and making quilts. She liked visiting with her friends and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her three daughters, Janet Anderson of Eldorado, Barbara (Gary) Kroshus of Decorah, and Sharon Teff of Dorchester; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Nell Brainard of Luana; and a brother, Robert "Jack" Gordon of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard, who died in 2005; two sons-in-law, Merle Anderson and Lloyd "Butch" Teff; a great-grandson, Ernie Engan, Jr.; a brother, Kimball Gordon; and two sisters, Etta Withers and Florence "Sally" Phiefield.
Honorary casketbearers were Ernie Engan, Jr. and Curtis Steele. Casketbearers were Brody and Rory Van Sickle, Joe Teff, Kevin Engan, Richard Brainard and Vernon Gavle.
