Mary E. Trotter, 72, of Oelwein and formerly of Westgate and Waukon died Monday morning, November 5, 2007 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, November 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Interment took place at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate.
Mary Evelyn Cole was born March 16, 1935 at Oelwein, the daughter of Claude D. and Ruth (Bartels) Cole. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1953.
Mary was united in marriage to Warren C. Trotter April 16, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Mary and Warren lived and raised their family at Westgate. During their years at Westgate, Mary was a secretary at Speedy Manufacturing and OCCO Feeds, both in Oelwein. They retired to Couderay, WI and lived there from 1982 to 1985. They then moved to an acreage near Waukon from 1985 until the death of Warren in 1999. Mary then moved to Oelwein in 1999.
Mary had formerly been a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at Westgate, St. John Lutheran Church at Waukon and the Westgate American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein and the Oelwein American Legion Auxiliary.
Mary enjoyed knitting, fishing, gardening and corresponding with her friends and relatives. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends, family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her son, Warren R. "Rick" (Joyce) Trotter of Fairbank; three daughters, Joan M. Morris of Mountain Grove, MO, Julie A. (Lyle) Gordon of Westgate, and Cheryl L. (Bill) Rummel of Maynard; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Kristin) Trotter, Andrew (Kristi) Trotter, Nicholas (fiancée Lindsay Timmerman) Trotter, Paul C. (Teresa) Morris, Wade (Jamie) Rummel, Christopher (Janice) Gordon, Dena (Matt) Tehel, Andrea Gordon and Lindsay Rummel; 12 great grandchildren; and a special friend, Bob Boyd of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren, February 20, 1999; four brothers; and a sister.
