Connie R. Ludeking, 96, of Waukon, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 30 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family immediately following the service. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is handling arrangements.
Constance "Connie" Regina Ludeking was born July 28, 1908, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Kibby. She attended St. Patrick's Elementary and High School, graduated from Waukon High School, and then attended Waukon Junior College for two years. She moved to Chicago in 1928 where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Chicago Motor Club and Marshall Fields department store.
She spent a year in Michigan during World War II and on April 6, 1942, she married Harold Ludeking in Detroit. The couple spent some time in Chicago and then in 1945 moved to Waukon where they operated Ludeking Implement. After selling the implement business they operated Club 51, a tavern/restaurant in Postville, for several years. Connie was the bookkeeper in both ventures. She has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon since 1997.
Connie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Veteran's Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Rosary Society at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was also an active volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center for many years and served on their Care Review Committee. She enjoyed traveling and reading as well as spending time with her family and close friends.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold, who died in 1965; four brothers, Raymond, Albert, James, and infant Sylvester Kibby; and four sisters, Blanche Sandbeck and Marcella, Mae, and Loretta Kibby.
