Lester Teslow

Lester A. Teslow, 90, of Waukon, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, June 7, at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor James Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Lester Alvin Teslow was born November 30, 1913, in rural Decorah on the Glenwood area farm of his parents, Edwin and Clara (Hersrud) Teslow. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church and attended the rural "Rocksvold School". Following school, Lester worked for several neighboring farmers and then farmed on shares and later on his own in the Ludlow Township.

In December of 1945, he married Florence Hexom at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. They were later divorced. Lester continued to farm until moving to Waukon in 1958. After that he worked as a carpenter and in construction for Moen & Toffsen and later Blackhawk Construction of Waterloo, retiring in 1975.

On August 1, 1970, he married Evangeline Stock Grotegut at Salem United Church of Christ.

Lester enjoyed fishing, playing cards, working in the yard, and reading just about anything. He loved being around children and also enjoyed visiting with his friends and talking about the old days.

Survivors include his wife, Evangeline of Waukon; two daughters, Linda Fay Gola of Osakis, Minn., and Lois Fern Peterson of Stacy, Minn.; a son, Clayton Edward Teslow of Minneapolis, Minn.; three step-daughters, Bonnie (Neil) Sanderman of Waukon, Joanne Groth of Postville, and Sharon (Richard) Kalloe of Chicago; nine grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Frank (Viola) and Ingeman Teslow, both of Decorah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Carl William and Rodney Duane Teslow; two granddaughters; a step-grandson; five brothers, Oliver, Alfred, Carlton, Henry and Raymond; and five sisters, Clarice E. Hanson and Anna Helen, Clarice E., and Doris Teslow, and an infant sister.
